Mission organization

Spring Break is soon to end and I promised myself I would organize my room and desk area. I just can't wait to have my own home office some day, complete with organized magazines, books and old journals. Well I'm off to cleaning. And don't you just love both the craft space and office? ♥

These little red owl designs, splashes of pink and colorful floral prints are available at Target. Valentine's Day and Springtime are just around the corner, which means it is now the time when stores stock their shelves with all things pink and cute. I can't resist all these pretty little things.

I love pretty little things. A simple flower and a pair of shoes are just a few examples. I have decided that my home will be completely accessorized with such things. Flowers, especially, are a must.

I want to go to a faraway land. Where worries are not wasted on money and bills and stress. Where I can twirl about and sing and smile. A world that knows love and nothing else. I sometimes dream of such a place.

A lesson on organization

I have a feeling it just may be one of those bloggidy blog days. I'm sitting at the dining room table that is covered in a layer of glitter left over from last night's ornament making. The music is blaring through the speakers. I can see the rain dripping down the window. All is good. No, all is great.

So I was clicking through some of my favorite blogs, and came across a recent entry by Decor8, which then led me to the discovery of Making it Lovely. I must say Nicole Balch's recent post has me green with envy. Has anyone seen such a beautifully organized closet? I like being organized, but my closet looks like a tornado hit it at the moment. I certainly have much to learn from Ms. Balch.

I dream of wallpaper

I am usually not a fan of wallpaper, but who could resist these designs by Anna French? The metallic colors are amazing.

I love old-fashioned furniture. And I've been obsessed with yellow and mustard colors as of late, so this chair is magnificent. I love the shape. But if I were to ever own such a chair, I would cover it in velvet.

Last of all, I am love love loving this painting featured in a blog entry by Secrets of a Butterfly. Which reminds me, I need to pick up my paint brush. It's been sitting dry for far too long.

Christmas time is here! And that means... time to decorate!

Masquerade preparation

I'm waiting to go grocery shopping for my dinner party that I am hosting tomorrow night. Throughout the year I host several dinner parties for my close friends. The last one was an unbirthday party with a Maddhatter theme. For tomorrow's party, I'm looking forward to seeing the nifty masks my friends have selected to wear. Lots of decorating left to do. White netting is soaking in black dye at the moment, and I still have my velvet pumpkins to finish putting together. Oy.

Razmataz

One of my favorite stores is Arizona's very own Razmataz. My mom and I first discovered this store about four or five years ago. And now our house is full of its castle-like furniture. An entertainment center, dining room table, iron bedframe and a ridiculously large bookcase are some of the purchases my parents have made over the years. In fact, I am now sitting at the dining room table pictured above. Also, be sure to check out the website that is finally up and running! But I also highly recommend all Arizona residents to visit this unique store that has several locations around the Valley.

A Blissfest event

I have piles of homework to do, but nonetheless I took a break for a few hours today to attend the Blissfest, an event hosted by Domestic Bliss that my mother and I have planned on attending for the past few weeks or so. And a blissfest it was. Each booth offered the most charming and unique designs. I fell in love with much of the jewelry, headbands, paintings, and antiques. Some favorites were Mosaic Cottage, Olive Annie, Beth Quinn Designs, Arranging Elegance, and Persnicketies. We left the event with a headband, three pieces of jewelry, an adorable pin board, and a lamp. I loved much more. But I defintely got some new design ideas myself.

Like Mother Like Daughter

A favorite pastime of mine involves flipping through piles and piles of magazines. To this day Home Companion remains a favorite. Growing up, my mother always had the TV tuned to HGTV and subscribed to a collection of interior design magazines. Our home has always been filled with antiques and my mother's unique creations. Her favorite pastime? Arranging furniture every other day. My mother would have been an excellent interior designer. She has an eye for beauty and knows how to make the ordinary, well, extraordinary. As a child, I would go to antique shops and yard sales with my mom. While I did not enjoy these trips then, I love them now. And I've realized that watching my mother design our home and shop for antiques has taught me more than any magazine could have ever done.

While I adore my mother's expensive taste, I am sometimes drawn to different things. My mom loves rich colors and rustic antiques. Whereas I am a fan of vintage and modern things, as well as antiques. But bright colors are a must. I'm drawn to a spring palette, whereas my mother is all for autumn colors. Between our seperate tastes, we can both agree that Magnolia Pearl is divine and her home is a perfect blend of rustic antiques and shabby chic designs.
