TV favorites

I have a slight obsession. When I find a show I like, I fall in love with it. First it was The O.C. in junior high followed by One Tree Hill in high school (still love). Then there was the Gilmore Girl obsession this past summer. And for the past two years, it's been Gossip Girl. So there you have it: four amazing shows.

1. The O.C.
Who can not love Seth Cohen, complete with his ridiculous dance moves and silly one-liners? And Coop {Mischa Barton} with her issues and Ryan constantly coming to her rescue. Anna and Summer fighting over Cohen {whose best friend is none other than his plastic horse, Captain Oats}. And Kirsten and Sandy- only the coolest parents to ever hit the screen.
Seth: What happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico. Ryan: What happens in Mexico. Seth: I don't know because it stays there, that's why we must go.

2. Gilmore Girls
Lorelai and Rory. Gotta love them, despite their political views. And who can not love Luke? Plus: Dean, Jess, Logan. Who to choose? Well my favorite was Logan.

3. One Tree Hill
I fell in love with this show as I watched Nathan Scott fall for tutor girl aka Haley James. I have been hooked ever since. Not only are they the cutest couple {ever}, but Nathan Scott is probably my favorite male character out of all the shows I've watched.

4. Gossip Girl
First season it was all about Dan and Serena. Second season, I hate Dan. And I'm in love with Chuck Bass. Chuck and Blair belong together. And I can not get enough of Blair, Serena, and Little J's fashion sense.

The O'Reilly Factor

I have been watching The O'Reilly Factor for four or five years now. And Bill O'Reilly is my favorite journalist by far. He looks out for the folks. He's not Republican or Democrat; he falls somewhere in the middle. He's hated by the far right and the far left. He doesn't let evil people get away with evil stuff. He talks about the issues that other media outlets- such as CNN and MSNBC- do not discuss. And he tells you how it is, without letting people walk all over him. After reading A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity (a favorite book!) I've learned a lot about Mr. O'Reilly. He's a patriot and an American that looks out for the people. Journalists are supposed to be watchdogs- and I think Mr. O'Reilly is doing his job. And I thank him for looking out for me and other Americans. P.S. "Miller Time" is my favorite. And I think Bill and Dennis together are a hoot.

Another side note, at age 14 or so I was going around telling people I wanted to be the next Bill O'Reilly (some were frightened). This was before I entered the 'J' School. And today, I think I can learn a lot from Mr. O'Reilly. I watch the show every week. And I still want to figure out if he has an internship available of some sort! And for those who haven't seen his show, I'd highly recommend it.

Magazine is art

Magazines are an art form. The design, the layout, the graphics, the fonts, and the creativity of words create a work of art...

I've always been drawn to underground magazines, such as Ellegirl and Nylon, because of their artistic beauty. Let me start with Ellegirl. I am saddened that it is only a Web site and the magazine is no longer published, at least not in the United States. I loved the photography and design of this magazine, not to mention the creative articles that could not be found in mainstream magazines. The Hot Potatoe List was a favorite, as well as the following: an interview with Captain Oats (yes, the plastic horse from The O.C.!) and an article on if glasses are sexy (this required the reporter to go to Barnes and Noble and Starbucks, while wearing glasses one day and without them the next, and make note of the opposite sex reactions).

Now while Ellegirl was my favorite for many years, Nylon has taken over. I do not agree with all their views, per se. But I love the electric style and graphics of the magazine. The photography is fashionably artistic and the styles are so mind-blowingly awesome. Bright tights, leather jackets, killer heels, bright colors, and feminine pieces combined make for an awesome mag. Each month I look forward to finding Nylon sitting in my mailbox. And having learned how much I miss my Ellegirl magazines, I now save each Nylon issue. I used to cut up Ellegirl and make collages, but today I don't dare lay scissors on Nylon.

Bright tights, big city

So there are a few things I'm loving this season. First of all, bright tights make a bold statement, which is perhaps why I haven't worn them. Nonetheless, I think they are rad. Also rad are leather jackets, which I think is a must for the fall and winter season. I'm in love with this jacket that can be purchased at Express. Sadly, it's much too pricey. And finally, I'm loving heels that look like they could be mistaken for a weapon. I must say, Jessica Simpson pumps and booties make a killer fashion statement. Perhaps if I would stop caring about how freakishly tall I look in heels, I might just find myself wearing them one day. If anything else, I could use a pair to defend myself (if needed) while walking to my car in downtown.
