Rambling As Usual

Lately I've been sleeping the mornings away, with Slinky, my dog, curled up next to my knees while my toes desperately clench the end of floral blankets. They always have a knack for slipping out at the end, freezing and resulting in a sore throat. I blame my height. It's too comfy to leave stacks of blankets and pillows, but the clutter is getting to me. So I sit for a few minutes more, eyes closed, contemplating the day. No school or finals, no work-- that's getting to me too. I've temporarily lost focus on the little things that bring me joy: writing, designing, collaging, painting and all creative things. I suppose it's just a mini-break.

I was thinking about my pretty interiors post the other day, and how neat it would be for all the rad, unemployed bloggers to start their own business in an old abandoned brick building in the city. Who knows what sort of business. One that involves extensive writing with a mission to inspire I suppose. Or something like that. It's just a silly daydream. These are the small things that occupy my mind.

I miss company. & I'm somewhat at a loss for how to make friends in this small town. Dogs have become my closest companions. Brother dropped off his dog, Cookie, yesterday while he went to work. She had been severely wounded by his pitbull, so I spent the better part of the day comforting the poor thing. The wound was deep, leaving her coat stained with blood, which soaked through the gauze bandage that mother and I applied to her neck. Her eyes appeared as if she were in shock. But by the end of the day she was wagging her tail and licking my hand. Thankful, I think.

I didn't tell you about Thanksgiving. It was the first year we celebrated with mom's family instead of the padre's. An early lunch was replaced with a late dinner, with more desserts than usual. Though I didn't eat one piece of pie. I didn't realize this until the next day. I was a bit disappointed.

A new year is around the corner. & I'm hopeful that it will be better than 2010. It's not that 2010 was necessarily bad. Just a lot of change and new things. Surreal. A lot of great things happened, despite being drenched in fear for the majority of the year. Magnificent things. Perhaps the greatest things ever. Like making new friends who I consider more family than friends. & Of course all of you. Isn't it funny how Twitter and Blogger has allowed us to be a part of each other's lives-- even if in the smallest of ways? I'm so thankful for that. & I'm thankful for you. ★

  1. It would be so cool if inspiring old buildings like that were just offered to bloggers, artists and designers...
Too bad the hard reality is that it's hard to find a single room in this city, let alone an inspiring one. Although I suppose that's where interior design comes in;)

I know what you mean, I feel a bit like a hermit too. And I've been watching too much dog whisperer with my mom, we are dying to get a dog, but we have a weird but cute cat and a tiny appartment, which both basically shatter that dream.

    Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely.
At least now you have an excuse to bake, you have to make up for that loss! :P

  2. I hope the doggy is okay! It sounds like she'll recover just fine. Poor thing!

As for making friends, I find it's really easy to through a job. I'm usually not someone who hangs out with coworkers outside of work, but I definitely would if I were wanting to meet new people.

  7. I really hope 2011 is a much better year. I agree this year was all about change and I'm ready to just have fun next year with the people I love.

Also, that's an amazing daydream. I'm unemployed and it'd be awesome to bring our blogger talents and designing and everything together and just be awesome!

  8. I think it would be pretty much amazing if somehow, somewhere, some way, a bunch of bloggers could just get together and somehow create some sort of... something together! I don't even know. I just feel like so many wonderful and creative people could really do something amazing. Somehow.

Aww, poor Cookie! It sounds like she really went through a lot, but if I were her I'd definitely be glad to have somehow like you to take care of me and all!

Thanksgiving without any pie does seem like sort of shame, haha. :/ But yes, I hope that with 2011 some incredible times are in store!

  15. New things and heaps of fear. That sounds quite familiar to me but I'd rather be a bunny-hearted, enchantable person than a hard one, I guess.

p.s.: Is there such a word as "bunny-hearted" in English meaning not-so-brave? I translated it directly from the German "hasenherzig".

  16. Gorgeous photos and such lovely words. I can definitely relate - sometimes my creativity burns out too, and this has been especially true with the rollercoaster ride that 2010 has been for me. Hopefully 2011 will be a great year for me in terms of writing and blogging - and I wish the same for you too!

  18. Oh I hope that little pup gets better soon! I have a silly dream of getting a big farm house with lots of land to be an inspirational place for bloggers. A big kitchen for the food bloggers, freedom to decorate for the DIYers, a place to write for the writers. How fun would that be?

  20. It's like blankets run away from us when we need them the most. In the coldest part of the night, the sly little things just slide right off the bed, leaving our toes exposed to the nip of the night.

2011 will be as great as we let it. Let's make things happen ♥
